It is interesting to see what an isolated and faraway island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean looks like. After flying for more than five hours from Chile, in South America, we completed the entire journey without seeing any land until reaching Easter Island in Oceania, which we consider a different continent. This short footage shows the exact moment the airplane heads directly to the airport near the only city on the island. It shows us how tiny and well-distributed the houses are, as well as the topography, featuring small hills—never mountains—in the background.
Most people who aren't geography experts think the only interesting thing about this island is its famous moai—the well-known, tall stone statues of half-bodies. However, I want to show you the lesser-known parts of the island, like its few streets, its people, and what the interior looks like, rather than just the coast and its statues.
How about listening to how the Rapa Nui (or Easter Island) language sounds? When I visited the island in 2010, I ran into a local girl and asked her to speak a few words in her native language and tell me something about her island.
